Judy Campbell Named to National Special Olympics Council

Judy Campbell of Indiana State University Laboratory School is named to the National Advisory Council of Special Olympics Inc. She and co-director Dr. Thomas Songster join 100 delegates from 53 programs in the U S Canada Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands at a Ft Lauderdale meeting. Eunice Kennedy Shriver presented awards outlined four year goals including enrollment targets volunteers and a national fund goal.

Marshall woman Sarah Black, 68, was admitted to Union Hospital with a possible concussion and three broken ribs after a frost covered bridge collision on Interstate 70. Lonnie Ostum of Effingham, Illinois, reported slick roads prevented him from stopping. no charges were filed.

Auto Mishap Kills 3 Near Covington

Three people died when a car left U.S. 136 and plunged into about 15 feet of water near Covington. Victims identified as Jimmie J. Bodine, 29, Covington, owner of the Indiana Traffic Deaths 1,383. Last year 1,439.

Two Die in Warren County Crash Near Covington

Police report a high speed westbound crash on U S 136 three miles west of Covington. Paul F Oilar Jr 24 and Toni J Oilar 30 both of Veedersburg died when their car skidded through a guard rail and rolled into a flooded field. State police divers recovered the bodies. The Thanksgiving weekend fatality count rose to eight.

Life Sentence Given Robertson

William T. Robertson, 22, received a life term in Vigo Circuit Court for the July 21 shooting death of Daniel Duby. The verdict followed a second degree murder finding by a jury, with defense claiming the shooting was accidental during a struggle.

Lefty Compton Dies Local Political Figure and Restaurateur

Local political figure and Harrison Township assessor Lefty Compton has died at 59 after an extended illness at his residence. He suffered a stroke in April 1971 and leaves wife Sharon S. and seven siblings among his survivors. The body was taken to Patrick J. Ryan Funeral Home with services planned.

New Attack Inside Lebanon Reported by Israel

Israeli military said a clash occurred with Palestinian guerrillas inside Lebanon near the cease-fire line. Reports from Lebanon claimed Israeli helicopter landings to blow up houses and burn tents at a guerrilla base near Khreibeh on Mt Hermon foothills before withdrawing. One Israeli soldier was wounded and several guerrillas were reportedly hit.
