MIAMI BEACH AP President Nixon addressed an AFL CIO convention that mocked his economic plan and urged organized labor to cooperate in seeking prosperity in peacetime while defending his policies.
Terre Haute CYO launched a $15,000 fundraising drive after being dropped from United Fund allocations. Rev. John O'Brien said proceeds will fund athletic and social programs and construction of a teen center. Anton Hulman Jr. chairs the effort with Louis Savage as active chairman.
The Wabash Valley United Fund extends its campaign to December 3 after a noon report showed $397,000 raised, about 59.5 percent of the $667,330 goal. Campaign chair Thomas S. Merritt cites ongoing firm campaigns and late pledges while warning of curtailed agency services if the goal isn’t met. allocations will be set after December 3 based on input at that time.

Mines closed include Jasonville Universal Clinton Hawthorne Sullivan and others. Ayrshire near Staunton operated midnight shift. Thunderbird was down due to a concurrent Breed Plant strike. Breed spokesman blamed slow coal movement. two Breed workers prevented rapid coal handling. Haley Brothers Coal seeks supplies as many customers face shortages. Washington AP reports the cost of living rose two tenths of one percent in October despite the price freeze. Higher prices for 1972 automobiles winter and fall clothing and shelter contributed to the gain, about half the prefreeze month‑to‑month average.
Democrats push to attach a campaign fund provision to Nixon's tax cut bill as Republicans cry foul. A 49-46 vote blocked a GOP bid to kill the amendment, signaling a protracted fight into next week. Democrats argue the fund could raise about 20.4 million next year while Republicans call it a slush fund and oppose government financing for campaigns. The parties clash amid upcoming election pressures and debates over federal funding versus private money.
President Nixon will be entered in New Hampshire's leadoff presidential primary next March 7, Republican sources report, and Gov. Walter Peterson urges him to campaign in person. Peterson says Nixon has broad support but should appear there briefly to strengthen momentum. An NH Nixon organization led by former Gov. Lane Dwinell is to be unveiled soon. Terre Haute high school students study the Volunteers of America in Brandon Residence at 220 N Fourth St opened 1956 for seniors with income-based payments. Ages span 56 to 90, average 70, with weekly worship in Brandon Lounge. No volunteers. four full-time and three more staff.
The final Terre Haute Harrison Township property tax hearing set the tentative rate at 13.24 per 100 along with two more mills shaved from the Library rate. The county total rose from valuation gains while cuts in county rates and funds trimmed the base rate, but library funding faced scrutiny amid a 2 cent reduction questioned by library director Ed Howard.
