Area Planning Design Gets State Approval

The Vigo County Area Planning Commission won final approval Tuesday morning from the State Highway Commission and the Bureau of Public Roads for the first eight components of its study design. The approval paves the way for an expenses survey to finish plans for Terre Haute traffic control and urban transportation future, with a computer to estimate man hours needed.

George Oscar Dix Dies at Age 94 in Terre Haute

Funeral services for George Oscar Dix longtime Terre Haute attorney and senior partner of Dix Dix Patrick Ratcliffe and Adamson will be held at 2 30 p m Thursday at J N Hickman and Son Funeral Home He died at 12 25 p m Tuesday in Union Hospital after a prolonged illness He was 94 and had served the Indiana State University and the Indianapolis division of the Indiana University Law School He was a founder and longtime adviser to ISU and a civic leader born in Prairie Creek and raised in Terre Haute He was admitted to the Indiana Supreme Court in 1898 and practiced until recent illness He held ISU honorary LL D in 1956 and was active in the First Congregational Church and multiple bar and judicial groups

Christmas Seal Campaign Underway in Vigo County

The Vigo County Tuberculosis Society launches its annual Christmas Seal Campaign with a goal of 25 000. Major services include tuberculin testing for about 7 000 schoolchildren, education programs, support for the Tuberculosis Outpatient Clinic, and research. 26 new active cases were recorded in 1967. 1968 figures are not yet compiled. A Minuteman II intercontinental ballistic missile was launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base today by Strategic Air Command missile combat crews of the 351st Strategic Missile Wing of Whiteman AFB Missouri. The Air Force said no further details were released in keeping with policy.
