Escapee From Clay Co Jail Surrenders After Shootout
Walter Eugene Armstrong, 27, of Clay City, who escaped from the Clay County jail with Lawrence Adamson, turned himself in to Sheriff Glenn Van Horn with wounds in both legs. He was treated at Clay County Hospital. The pair escaped using a tool fashioned from a spoon and magazines to access tail doors and short the wiring. Armstrong was wounded during pursuit by local police and state troopers and left a note saying they were sorry to escape, while observers noted their remorse.
