Fire damages Vermillion County Nursing Home in Clinton
A fire in Clinton Indiana at the Vermillion County Nursing Home forced about 40 elderly residents to evacuate. Fourteen were carried from the nursing wing as Newport fire crews fought flames in the basement. Firemen from the Wabash River Ordnance Works aided, with damage confined to a basement storage room and southeast corner, plus the ground floor kitchen. Cause is under investigation. Fire Claims Seven Children in Peoria Heights Home
In Peoria Illinois a coal stove explosion is believed to have started a fire that killed seven children in a one story house in Richwood township. Firemen found the charred bodies in the ruins before dawn.
