Terre Haute faces election day with ballots and booths ready. County party leaders predict heavy turnout as registration reaches 34 014 and absentee ballots total 944. mayoral race looms with a mass meeting planned in the Fourth Ward and final unofficial results expected by Wednesday morning.
Mrs Norma Hunter of 2527 North Fifteenth Street fainted in City Court while describing neglect by her husband Charles Joseph Hunter 28 of 1623 North Fifteenth Street. She testified the family faced hunger little clothing and no heat while he allegedly failed to keep promised support. Officer Elvin Mahan carried her to safety as she regained composure. Judge Everett presided. Hunter did not appear and was offered a continuance. Also fined were Judge Britain for speeding 15.75 dollars Robert Elliott for truck route violation 7.75 dollars and Delores C Miller for running a stop sign 2.75 dollars.
More than 20 000 people attended the Terre Haute dedication and open house for the Indiana Air National Guard at Hulman Field. Governor George N. Craig praised local cooperation as the 113th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron and units opened their home with jet displays and a Thunderbird air show.
In a Commons debate London Foreign Secretary Harold Macmillan laid out the painful story of diplomat spies Burgess and MacLean. He exonerated Herbert Philby from being the so called third man and said there is no evidence he tipped off the pair. Investigations continue as the long scandal finally enters public view.

Darlington Hoopes Readings Pa national Socialist chairman praised Debs and urged followers to keep his torch alive. W P Kennedy Cleveland national president of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen also laid a wreath and saluted Debs as a great man who lived among them.
In Surporo Japan nine more bodies were recovered at the Mojiri Mine confirming 57 dead from last Tuesday's underground explosion. Three miners remain missing and thirty were rescued in the disaster.
The Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the doctrine of separate but equal is dead in public parks playgrounds and golf courses. It upheld a lower court ruling that segregation in these public facilities is unconstitutional and left procedures for ending segregated policies to the lower federal courts.
Police pursued a tall slender thief who grabbed a purse from Winifred Brown and fled toward an alley near Eidith and Fagle streets. Winifred OConnell witnessed the attack on Eighth Street. The purse contained $10. it was recovered but money and papers were missing.
The New York and American stock exchanges will be closed on Tuesday for election day. The Chicago Midwest Stock Exchange will operate as usual. Grain exchanges across the United States will stay open as normal.
Oklahoma City reports a school program where five to eleven year olds with physical handicaps join 30 minute daily square dance sessions. Under therapist Mrs. Lucy York at W. J. Bryen School, polio victims shed crutches, speech issues improved, and children gain strength and coordination while enjoying a dancing party.
Juan D. Peron, ousted Argentine president, arrived in Panama City Sunday night. He gave vague answers about his future plans and warned that the new Argentine government would face trouble from workers when labor contracts expire at year end.
British philosopher Arnold Toynbee warned a large Minneapolis audience that mankind faces two options mass suicide or global unity. He urged a world wide social fusion of tribes nations civilizations and religions to avoid self destruction and predicted an inevitable move toward world unification despite current governments hesitations.
Dr Paul Dudley White said Eisenhower could fly back to Washington Friday after final checks at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital but will decide for himself about running again. The president is improving with no complications seven weeks into recovery and may travel to Gettysburg farm on Nov 14 for further recuperation before a possible late January or February decision.
The Supreme Court ruled that civilians cannot be tried by military court martial for crimes committed in service. Former Air Force Sgt. Robert W. Toth, of Pittsburgh, cannot be tried by the Air Force for killing a South Korean civilian, Bong Soon kil. Justice Black delivered the majority opinion in a 6-3 decision, with Justices Reed, Burton and Minton dissenting.
Five young women died when their car plunged from an embankment into the Minnesota River near Mendota. One survivor, Donna Mae Wills of Minneapolis, surfaced and was rescued. The deceased were Margaret Miskowiec, Dolores Mary Miskowiec, Ruth Ann Pulkrabak, Carol Reed, and Ann Mairs, the driver. They had been leaving the River Road Club after a late dance.
Muncie Indiana on Sunday a four month old infant Reggie Lee Harris was found smothered between blankets and throw rugs on a dav enport in his home.
The United States may supply anti air craft anti tank and other defensive weapons to Israel if uncovered evidence supports offsetting Soviet bloc arms to Egypt. Israel will submit a list of needed arms to the State Department with no firm commitment yet while new Middle East reviews proceed.
A bandit and a blonde accomplice held cashier Robert McGinley and his wife Ruth for 13 hours then robbed the Hebron bank of 3200. McGinley was later released unharmed in Illinois. The bandits did not reach the main vault and escaped with silver and small bills after forcing a smaller vault. The wife was found tied at home. the suspect resembles Queen Maggie OConnor, wanted in Chicago area robberies.
Geneva dispatch reports the Western trio pressed for free all German elections and an accord on satellite states as John Foster Dulles met Marshal Tito in Yugoslavia. Molotov returned to Moscow for fresh proposals to break the German unity deadlock, while Western diplomats cautious about real peace prospects in Geneva.
Watseka Illinois November 7 Robert Hall eighteen and Darwin Clark nineteen Kentland Indiana were killed Sunday when their car was struck by a truck on U S 24 near Watseka Clark was home on a furlough to attend his mother’s funeral who had died ten days earlier.
