The exchange followed a press conference where Mische, who knew Alldredge at Lewisburg, sought interviews with inmates and criticized progress, while Alldredge emphasized ongoing reforms.
Terre Haute Chief of Detectives Frank Hoffman tells the Break fast Optimist Club that a merit system will govern promotions in the Terre Haute Police Department. Testing to begin later this month will be conducted by the International Association of Chiefs of Police with additional funding sought from the Criminal Justice Planning Agency. The department, now at 109 officers, will base advancement on a 50 point written exam 40 point oral interview and 10 point seniority. The mayor will appoint the chief and assistant chief.
Analysts focus on the 7th District where John Myers seeks a fourth term and Warren Henegar builds a coalition. The district spans 16 counties with Bloomington and Terre Haute dominated by universities and 9,292 student voters registered in Monroe County alone. Continued on page 2.
