Eight Feared Dead In Hotel Fire In Crookston Minnesota

A hotel fire in Crookston Minnesota turned the Northwood Hotel into a blazing torch. Eight feared dead with three others believed trapped inside. Two escapees died later in hospital. Names of victims and those injured were tentatively identified as local residents and out of town visitors.

Four GOP ticket spots remain unfilled in Vigo County

Early reports suggest a GOP precinct convention may nominate a full ticket to fill four vacancies. 18 Die In Monterrey Area Plane Crash

A Mexican airliner crash 16 miles north of Monterrey killed all 18 on board including five North American named passengers. The Torreon Monterrey run operated by Aereo Naves Line went missing since Thursday night with wreckage found at daybreak in the Sierra de Salinas near Puente de Morales.

Tank hits old mine in maneuvers kills three soldiers

Three American soldiers of the U S 25th Infantry Division were killed and another seriously injured when their tank ran over an old land mine during maneuvers near the central front. Names of the men were withheld.

Senate approves Air Force Academy plan

The Senate approved a 126 million dollar Air Force Academy project to train future air officers. The measure moves to the House for final action before White House signing. A five man site selection board will report as soon as practicable on the academy location with three candidate sites.

Violence on New York docks as 3 AFL longshoremen beaten

Violence erupted on the New York waterfront as the AFL International Longshoremen's Assn. suffered a beating of three members in Brooklyn and Manhattan amid a longshoremen strike that has halted port activity for 22 days. West Terre Haute Bank Robbery Shocked by Bandit Hit

State Police issued a statewide alert for a black 1946 sedan carrying two men a woman and a child suspected of aiding the bank holdup at the State Bank of West Terre Haute. A teller and a customer were involved as the gunman fled after grabbing cash and firing a shotgun.

Coast Guard Seizes Chinese Ships Near Korea

The South Korean Coast Guard seized two Chinese Red junks with 17 crewmen about 100 miles south of Korea. This marks the first seizure of Chinese vessels for violating the Rhee line, which extends about 60 miles around Korea. Earlier last week Reds seized a Korean fishing boat with 11 men aboard.
