Platform writers steer toward liberal planks in long session
Democratic platform writers spent 18 hours shaping a document reflecting Sen. George McGovern's Indochina and domestic views without full endorsement of his more controversial positions. They rejected Alabama Gov. George C. Wallace's bid to back a constitutional ban on busing for racial balance and limited other Wallace proposals.
