Road plan would cost driver $8.60 yearly, says study
The proposed $32.9 billion federal state highway program would cost the average motorist $8.60 a year in higher taxes. Experts say savings of a penny per mile on the new super highways would repay the cost, plus an estimated 3,500 lives saved annually. The plan envisions 13 years of construction, mostly free roads, and toll free interstates from coast to coast.
