Miners Picnic Seeks Music Bids For July Event

The Miners' Picnic Committee will review bids for music at the annual picnic during a Saturday meeting at United Mine Workers of America District 11 headquarters. Bids must be in by 10 a.m. and contracts awarded at the meeting. The picnic runs July 28 29 30 at Memorial Stadium.

Paris Moonlight River Party Honors Duke on 73rd Birthday

The Duke and Duchess of Windsor were feted aboard two Seine river boats by Wa than Cummings in a private moonlight party for the Duke’s 73rd birthday. About 250 guests from arts and society attended a champagne buffet and dancing while trumpeters announced arrivals. fireworks were canceled.

Everett Branam of Vigo County Dies at 60

Everett Branam Sr 60 longtime Vigo County Council president died at Union Hospital at 11 30 p m He served on the county council from 1954 later leading the body for multiple terms until November 1966 Branam a retired railroad conductor belonged to the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and Mt Aetna Baptist Church of Fontanet He lived in Fontanet then North Terre Haute Surviving are his wife Grace three sons Everett Branam Jr Ted and Tom Branam two daughters Mary Phyllis Koos and Ruth Ann Dougherty two sisters Marie Cathart Jeah Dicky and three brothers John Don and Charles and 15 grandchildren Funeral services are set for Monday at 2 00 p m at Mattox Funeral Home Fontanet Memorial Park.

Homer N. Jackson Dies Sudden in Terre Haute

Homer N. Jackson 62 of 3234 S Fifth St died at 12 20 p m Friday at St Anthony Hospital after four hours admission. He worked as a cost analyst for Weston Paper Mfg Co and is survived by his wife Cleta a son William and two grandchildren. He held several Masonic and fraternal memberships and services are planned at Euclid Lodge and Memorial Park with calling hours after 2 p m Saturday.

Ex-Policeman Raymond J. Carpenter Dies at 63

Raymond J. Carpenter a retired Terre Haute police officer aged 63 died of an apparent heart attack at his home Friday morning. He served 21 years before retiring in 1955 and worked as maintenance supervisor for the Air National Guard at Hulman Field. Survived by wife Pauline two sons Glenn a detective and Marion daughter Dorothy Jennings of Dayton Ohio two stepsons Jerry Templeton and Larry in Japan a sister Gladys Esker of Arlington Virginia and eight grandchildren. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Saturday at Bedino Peace Chapel where services are pending.
