Former Salvation Army Major dies in South Dakota flood
Major G William Medley commander of Rapid City Salvation Army Corps perished while aiding families in the Rapid City disaster. He was son in law of Major Elgie Roughn who led the local corps 1960 to 1963. Special teams found his body Saturday night June 10 as the Army mobilized to feed victims. Defender of the disaster head quarters Mrs Medley remained directing operations through the night. The Army served over 5000 meals in five hours and distributed clothing blankets and supplies with nearly 500 volunteers aiding at aid stations and debris sites.
