Keep Smoking It May Be Better Than Quitting Says Doctor
A psychiatrist told the AMA that some smokers are better off continuing the habit to avoid emotional disorders seen when attempting to quit. Dr. Sheldon Cohen of Atlanta cited withdrawal trauma, deep emotional ties to smoking, and cases where patients relapsed after treatment. He warned smoking cessation is hard and that only about 10 to 20 percent may quit, urging prevention by stopping new smokers rather than encouraging quitting.
