Well cave in kills miner at Saxton coal mine
Ralph Rooksberry 49, a Saxton coal mine worker, was buried under ten feet of gravel while digging a well for his daughter in law at 1617 North Thirty first street. Rescue crews used a giant clamshell crane and earth mover, but after three and a half hours he was found dead in a 20 foot shaft despite oxygen. His wife, present at the scene, mourned as Coroner Denzil Ferguson ruled the death.
