In Muncie Indiana on Thursday 16 month old Linda Diane Jackson died after being struck by a backing car driven by Virginia Sorrell 27 in front of the family home.
The bodies of Mrs. Victora Sliver 35 and her husband William H. Sliver 42 were recovered from the Wabash River. Victora’s body was found Thursday night about 15 miles downstream from the couple’s earlier drowning site.
William H. Klene, 45, of Greensburg was killed in a two car collision on U S 41 north of Shelbyville. Three others including his wife Irene, 38, and sister Magdaline Klene, 44, were hospitalized.
Indiana State Teachers College kicks off graduation activities with an Alumni-Senior Day program at 10 a.m. in the Student Union Auditorium and noon class reunion luncheons for all graduating classes ending in 2 and 7 in the Student Union Ballroom. Continued on Page 9 Column 1.
Indiana experiences a layered forecast with cool air at the top and unseasonably warm temperatures in the mid and lower zones. Morning readings were 59 to 69 degrees with a cooling trend through Saturday and Sunday and a five day outlook showing 2 to 5 degrees below normal. Scattered thundershowers are expected today Saturday and again Tuesday with accumulations from one quarter to three quarters of an inch, heavier in spots.
Rose Polytechnic Institute will hold commencement Saturday at 10 o clock for eighty five graduates, the largest class in the school’s history. Degrees in engineering will be awarded to a largely Illinois Indiana and Kentucky group led by high honor student Paul Howard Lewis from Appleton Wisconsin with a 3.97 average. Others named high honors include William E. Shaw Charles D. Corbin John H. Derry Gerald C. Rose Henry E. Jackel and Gene L. Mrava. Honors graduates include John A. Bizal Robert E. Bright Harold D. Brown Clyde R. Frump Lawrence E. Thomas and John L. Blox
Jack W. Martin a 27 year old former Terre Haute junior high school teacher appeared before Judge Herbert Criss in Vigo Circuit Court with a motion for a change of venue from the judge. He faces two counts of assault and battery on a child and had been released on a 2000 appearance bond. A new trial date was set for June 17 after defense counsel requested more investigation and Judge Criss granted the venue change selecting a panel of three local attorneys from which a special judge may be chosen.
Myron Apel Gilbert and Warren William Hair both 20 and USC students were seized by Hungarian secret police after crossing from Austria May 26. They were expelled and released at the Nickelsdorf border crossing as pledged by puppet premier Janos Kadar. Gilbert studies political science and Hair journalism.
Secret Service agents moved to round up a gang of forgers accused of luring children to sign stolen government checks in a handwriting contest. Maurice Martineau filed forgery charges against two men, naming Gilbert Turner of Milwaukee and Albert R. Mosby. several other men were said to be involved. The children were not to be prosecuted.
