Mixed Weather Over Hoosierland Reveals Varied Temps

Indiana experiences a layered forecast with cool air at the top and unseasonably warm temperatures in the mid and lower zones. Morning readings were 59 to 69 degrees with a cooling trend through Saturday and Sunday and a five day outlook showing 2 to 5 degrees below normal. Scattered thundershowers are expected today Saturday and again Tuesday with accumulations from one quarter to three quarters of an inch, heavier in spots.

Rose Polytechnic To Graduate Its Largest Class

Rose Polytechnic Institute will hold commencement Saturday at 10 o clock for eighty five graduates, the largest class in the school’s history. Degrees in engineering will be awarded to a largely Illinois Indiana and Kentucky group led by high honor student Paul Howard Lewis from Appleton Wisconsin with a 3.97 average. Martin Granted Change of Venue From Judge Criss

Jack W. Martin a 27 year old former Terre Haute junior high school teacher appeared before Judge Herbert Criss in Vigo Circuit Court with a motion for a change of venue from the judge. He faces two counts of assault and battery on a child and had been released on a 2000 appearance bond. A new trial date was set for June 17 after defense counsel requested more investigation and Judge Criss granted the venue change selecting a panel of three local attorneys from which a special judge may be chosen.

Two U S Students Freed After Hungary Seizure

Myron Apel Gilbert and Warren William Hair both 20 and USC students were seized by Hungarian secret police after crossing from Austria May 26. They were expelled and released at the Nickelsdorf border crossing as pledged by puppet premier Janos Kadar. Gilbert studies political science and Hair journalism.

War on Forgers Using Children to Sign Checks

Secret Service agents moved to round up a gang of forgers accused of luring children to sign stolen government checks in a handwriting contest. Maurice Martineau filed forgery charges against two men, naming Gilbert Turner of Milwaukee and Albert R. Mosby. several other men were said to be involved. The children were not to be prosecuted.
