Death Verdicts Hard to Get Atty Gen Dillon
INDIANAPOLIS AP It will be tough for prosecutors to obtain death penalties in Indiana after the Supreme Court ruling. Atty. Gen. John J. Dillon says the decision removes some support for capital punishment but does not end it in Indiana. He notes the ruling allows challenges for cause based on an unbending opposition to execution, and cites a habeas corpus case in Gary as a test of Indiana’s statute. Eight men on Death Row remain at the state prison.

Budget crisis splits WCSC over salaries and year overlap
Dr Hays warns that disjointed fiscal and budget years hinder funding for salaries and services at WCSC. Cuts in operating budgets would reduce summer school and recreation programs, with some students likely to suffer. Several districts face insolvency, prompting calls for a special assembly and relief to expand services rather than contract.
