Justice Dept. Receives Wheat Price Manipulation Probe
Agriculture Department inquiry into alleged wheat price rigging in last summer’s Russia grain sales has been turned to the Justice Department for possible criminal fraud action. The Commodity Exchange Authority findings were sent for further investigation. The probe follows a KC Board of Trade inquiry that found no wrongdoing. The incident tied to higher closing prices and larger export subsidies, with subsidies sharply rising from an estimated 67 million to 300 million, after the program ended.
