Voice of television crime shows sees announcing fade
Hank Simms, voice of Quinn Martin programs like The FBI and Cannon, laments that announcing is a dying art as networks cut veteran voices and rely on computers. The Tulsa native, now freelancing, recalls his radio start in Kansas and Texas and juggling family life with a demanding schedule. He notes no network contract limits earnings and remains passionate about the craft. The piece includes a Mary Tyler Moore Show tease airing Saturday night on local channels.
