Vigo County Library plans 1976 budget and new building design

The Vigo County Public Library board approves advertising a 1976 budget of 978,994, up nearly 10 percent from 1975, with a 38.8 cent levy if valuations hold. Newport Decision This Week Bayh Eyes Plant Location

Senator Birch Bayh says a decision on locating a proposed multi hundred million dollar RDX production plant at Newport Indiana or McAlester Oklahoma could come this week. Army Secretary Norman Augustine briefed Bayh as Indiana officials push for Newport while Congress must approve funding and timing. The project could cost 300 to 800 million dollars with operation planned by October 1981 and construction possibly starting in late 1978.

Vigo County Council weighs 1.3 million in funding requests

The Vigo County Council will hold a special session Friday at 9 30 am to hear county officials explain why more than 1.3 million dollars is being requested. Proposals include 585 000 from county funds and 440 278 from federal revenue sharing for various departments. Additional requests cover 175 820 from OETA funds for a new county department to administer CETA programs, 89 628 for 12 take home patrol cars, 4 700 for Prairie Creek Park water systems, 4 226 for a new motor vehicle, and road improvements totaling 585 000 across Robinson Road Harlan Road and Lewis Road. The remainder of funding will be considered for 1975.

Horses in Spotlight At Vigo County Fair

Thousands flocked to Vigo County Fair on a sunny day as horse activities drew crowds. Highlights included light and heavy weight pulls, running races before the grandstand, and 4-H horse and pony judging with a total purse of 2860.

School Board Awards Remodeling Bids in Vigo County

In a special session the Vigo County School Corporation board approved remodeling bids totaling 69 870 95 for Sarah Scott Woodrow Wilson and Chauncey Rose junior high schools to be finished before the 1975 76 school year. Bidders include R E Anderson & Associates Brodhead Barrett Co Hardware Supply Co Industrial Supply Co Klingstein Machinery Lee Company Midwest Printers Supply Paxton Patterson Rapid Reproductions and W W Siegrist with prices listed and a possible 10 percent increase. A resolution to include principal and interest on debt service from old civil township districts in the regular school budget was approved, transferring the levy to the school budget without tax rate change. The 1976 total is 26 870 approximately 1 3 cents, and the board will meet again July 28 at the UCSC Administration Building.

Big Walnut Lake Hearing Draws Support and Opposition

About 350 to 400 people attended a Monday night hearing on the Big Walnut Lake project in Greencastle Indiana. The Army Corps of Engineers plans a multi purpose reservoir with flood control water supply and recreation. Support gained backing from the Central Wabash Valley Building and Construction Trades Council and seven local labor groups. The reservoir aims to protect 5,700 acres in Putnam County and reduce flood losses in the Eel River basin affecting 45,000 acres in Clay County and 145,000 acres in the White River basin. Rockefeller to present economy plan to governors at conference

Vice President Nelson Rockefeller planned to outline Ford economic proposals to the Midwestern Governors Conference in Cincinnati. Ohio Governor Rhodes praised Rockefeller for strong state relations as energy medical planning agriculture and transportation topics on the agenda also featured. Indiana Governor Bowen chaired the energy task force urging deregulation tax incentives for exploration and continued fuel oil and gasoline allocation.
