Hulburd Seeks New Trial in Corby Murder Case

Charles Ross Hulburd Jr. appeals his first degree murder conviction for the Dec 28 killing of Nellie Maxine Corby. Serving life at Indiana State Prison he filed three motions in Vigo Circuit Court seeking court-appointed counsel, extra time, and a new trial with self prepared grounds. Judge Criss took the motions under advisement to July 23.

Rocket Plane Attains New Altitude Record

At Edwards Air Force Base Maj. Bob White piloted the X15 rocket plane toward a world altitude record above 50 miles aimed at 282000 feet. Ground control tracked his ascent as another pilot monitored the climb signaling the height approaching 285000 feet.

Air National Guardsmen to Start Return Flights Home

Air National Guardsmen from Indiana will begin returning from France this week. About 90 members of the 113th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Hulman Field are due home between July 18 and August 7 with daily increments from one to 13 men. The first arrival will be M Sgt William Cochran aboard C 118s via Newfoundland to Fort Wayne.

Guardsmen Injured by Shell Explosion at Camp Shelby

A mortar shell exploded in the rear of a truck at Camp Shelby in Hattiesburg Mississippi injuring 12 Mississippi National Guardsmen. A spokesman said none of the men was seriously hurt. The 3.5 inch shell exploded when it was thrown into the truck.

City Board Verdict Upheld in Detective Suspension Case

Judge Albert R. Owens upheld the Terre Haute Board of Public Works and Safety ruling suspending Detective Ray Tryon for six months for alleged improper discharge of duty. The Superior Court No. 2 found competent evidence supporting the board’s charges that Tryon violated police rules 4 and 9. Costs of the appeal taxed to the plaintiff. Continued on Page 2, Col. 3.

Housing Unit Construction Near Reality

The regional Public Housing Administration director and Chicago staff visited Terre Haute Tuesday to inspect the first 200 units of public housing. Local officials said construction hopes to begin in September with the Housing Authority planning the project and ensuring final specifications meet requirements.

Explosion Kills Crewman on B-58 Hustler Bomber

Bunker Hill Indiana July 17 UPI A F officials opened an inquiry into a minor explosion and depressurization aboard a B 58 Hustler en route to Lafayette from Nashville. First Lt James P Estrada 28 defensive systems operator died when engine debris tore through the aircraft at 35000 feet. The pilot Maj Leonard V Sullivan reported a slight yaw and pressure problems. Estrada lived at Bunker Hill AFB with his wife and three children.

Celebrezze Meets with President in White House Visit

Mayor Anthony J. Celebrezze of Cleveland met with President Kennedy at the White House and said he would not discuss medical care for the aged or school aid until Senate confirmation. Vigo County Plan 60-Cent Building Fund Hearing Set

Vigo County School Corporation trustees approved a 60 cent cumulative building fund at a public hearing to be held August 6 at 8 o clock in the School Administration Building. The plan would raise about 1 175 730 annually for 12 years totaling 14 108 000 based on current valuations, with changes possible in the ongoing building program.

Infant's body found in suitcase near Nashville

The body of a baby boy believed to be no more than two days old was found Monday inside a locked suitcase along a Hancock County road at Nashville, about 15 miles northeast of Greenfield. Sheriff Edwin W. Kirkpatrick said the suitcase appeared dumped from a passing car.
