Mankin bill lacks takers for property tax relief plan

In Indianapolis Democratic leader Mankin sought Republican co sponsorship for bills to raise state sales and gross income taxes by 50 percent to cut property taxes nearly in half but Republicans refused. Hercules to Build Multiplication Plant Near Terre Haute

Hercules Incorporated announced a multi million dollar plant to produce flexible packaging films on a 100 acre site five miles north of Terre Haute. Expected completion in early 1968, the plant will employ 500 to 600 when fully operational. The firm also introduced a new line of saran coated films for packaging snacks, candy and related goods.

Space medicine school fire kills airman at simulator

A fire in a space cabin simulator at the School of Aerospace Medicine in San Antonio, Texas, killed one airman and badly burned another, authorities said. The incident occurred today as investigators inspect the scene for causes and safety failures.

City Council Accepts Gift For New Park

Terre Haute council unanimously accepts an $89,000 bequest from the Julius Brittlebank estate to establish Brittlebank Park and maintain its name. Gun Accident Proves Fatal To Indiana Youth

Indiana State University freshman John Peter Callahan, 18, of 320 Hamilton Dr., was found dead in his car from a 16 gauge shotgun wound just above the eye. His funeral is set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Callahan Funeral Home with Rev. Robert DeLong officiating. Friends may visit after 2 p.m. Wednesday. The 19-year-old girlfriend notified police after the shooting. Continued on Page 33.

Million Fled N Vietnam Document Reported

Saigon reports Viet Cong attacks kill four and wound 17 including two Americans in Saigon area. A captured Communist document claims a million Vietnamese slipped from Red control in the past year. The paper notes the document was for leaders only and contrasts with public claims of control.
