Upstate Gas Cutback Could Idle 40 000 Workers

Northern Indiana Public Service Company ordered gas curtailments amid forecasts of zero highs and bitter cold. The move targets 2,500 industrial customers and could idly as many as 40,000 Lake County workers, with US Steel employment impacts and no residential reductions planned.

Weather Outlook for Terre Haute Area Turns Cold

Increasing cloudiness tonight brings a cold period with possible snow tonight and Friday. Lows tonight 5 to 10 above, highs Friday in the upper teens to low 20s. Extended outlook calls for very cold weather Saturday through Monday with lows from 10 to 15 below, around zero Monday.

Winter Drifting Snow Closes Wabash Valley Schools

Drifting snow and ice covered roads created hazardous travel as winds up to 45 mph produced high drifts in rural areas. Vigo Clay and Sullivan counties closed all area schools with plans to reopen Friday if conditions improve, as gas cutbacks and heating equipment constraints disrupted several schools and industries.

A series of blasts aboard the Exxon San Francisco at the Baytown refinery injured 17 and left four missing as a heating oil spill and fire erupted.
