Premier Chou En Lai pledged China will work unswervingly for normal relations with the United States. President Nixon leaves Peking for Hangchow after a banquet for Chou, recalling their talks and praising mutual progress toward normalization.
A Vigo Circuit Court arraignment is set for Diane Mangino, 28, of 806 S 10th St, on a prostitution charge. She was arrested Thursday at 417 Elm St with a man who was released after questioning. Mangino was jailed and later released on a 500 bond pending court appearance.
Nine persons are feared dead after a Nordale Hotel fire in Fairbanks Alaska. Police said the fire destroyed the landmark building and a rubble search was delayed due to intense heat with no bodies found as of Thursday night.
A Vigo Circuit Court petition seeks court permission to donate 25 000 from the Chauncey Rose Home funds to the Southside Day Nursery building fund. In Indianapolis an armed escape after a Cumberland bank heist left Deputy Sheriff Floyd T. Settles dead. The two masked robbers freed a female hostage, Mrs. Carolyn Jones, and fled in a dark blue Pontiac with $11,453. Police describe one suspect as white, 28 to 45, 5 feet 2 inches, 125 pounds, and another as 24 to 37, 5 feet 9 inches, 170 pounds. The bank is an American Fletcher branch east of Indianapolis.
Terre Haute officials in Indianapolis review plans for a total redesign of U.S. 41 near the I-70 interchange. State Highway Commission engineer Clint Venable outlines widening and signal modernization to add a third lane each direction, with a four lane plus central median design and a left turn lane at Margaret Ave.
