South Korean police report evidence that at least seven Communist agents boarded a Pusan to Seoul passenger plane and seized it at gunpoint. The two American pilots steered the DC-3 into North Korea, where some passengers were wounded. North Korea demanded direct talks with Rhee, rejecting the armistice framework.
A. N. Levin, longtime Union Hospital director since 1939, was elected president at the hospital’s sixty fifth annual directors meeting. Leonard B. Marshall resigned as president but remains on the board. Mrs. Crawford Failey became vice president and eight others were re elected.
A crib fire at 8 27 AM at 2520 North Fifteenth and one half street burned Mrs Iona Wilcox and her three year old son Terry Wilcox who were pulled from the smoke by the mother. They were hospitalized with burns and treated for minor injuries. Firefighters from multiple companies responded and an oil burner proximity was blamed for the blaze.
A grand jury indicted Carpenters Union President Maurice A. Hutcheson and two international officers plus a former state highway buyer on bribery and conspiracy charges. Also named is Harry Doggett, ex Indiana State Highway Dept aide, on bribery extortion and profit receiving charges as part of land profiteering probe in Lake and Wayne Counties. Raymond Christensen, 11, experienced his first snowfall on February 18 in West Palm Beach Florida. A family friend Frank Poleck arrived from Fulton New York with a pickup loaded with 200 pounds of snow. Raymond wasted no time and built a snowman on the porch.
Federal Communications Commission examiner Sharfman testified that the Miami Channel 10 award went to Public Service Television a National Airlines subsidiary over a higher ranked candidate. He said the commission overruled his 1954 recommendation favoring Col A Frank Katzenstein. The hearing queried ties to Col George Gordon Moore and possible money from an attorney for the winner.
Indiana eases from a severe cold spell with a modest warmup anticipated for Thursday as sub zero readings persist. Morning lows ranged from 2 below in Indianapolis and Lafayette to near 10 below forecast in South Bend, with more cold weather expected tonight.

Mrs Walter Westra of 3001 Kussner Avenue asked police to find her husband and three year old son who disappeared a week earlier from their home. She said the family car, abandoned in Vincennes, has been recovered and that the pair may be in Vincennes or Lawrenceville. The husband is described as 45, about 5’8” and 160 pounds. the son is light brown haired, blue eyed and large for his age.
Indiana State Highway Department announces four public hearings over three weeks on highway projects. The first hearing is February 25 in Carlisle to discuss relocating 6.25 miles of U.S. 41 north from Carlisle.
North Terre Haute and Otter Creek Township residents gathered for a town hall on area planning and zoning. A committee was appointed to study incorporation laws amid debate over excluding planning and zoning versus pursuing incorporation.
