Two cars collided near Michigantown five miles northwest of Frankfort Indiana killing Carl Buchholv, 39, of near Logansport, who was a passenger in one car. Five other men were injured, none critically. Buchholv and three of the injured were members of a barbershop quartet en route to sing in Frankfort.
Howard Lang a 13 year old boy stands trial for the murder of his school friend Lonnie Fellick. He confessed to killing after a threat to reveal theft of $10. Lang’s defense claims mental impairment and temporary insanity while a psychiatrist cites sanity in December. Local officials and juvenile systems are pressed by defense as on trial.
Lester Jack, secretary of the Vigo County Civic Association, tells park commissioners a $30,000 deficit in the park department budget stems from an error in the 1948 budget and tax rate. He outlines bond interest payment effects, borrowing practices, and proposed use of Spencer Ball fund proceeds totaling $24,351.17.
Moscow codenews reports Soviet charges that the United States Britain and France sought deals with Germany to secure peace or attack Russia from the Middle East. The claims name Allen Dulles and Max Aitken as agents in 1941 42 and 43, while Dulles and Aitken reject the allegations as nonsense and misrepresentations.

Washington February 17 The Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved the European Recovery Program ERP bill by 13 to 0 authorizing 5.3 billion dollars for the first year beginning April 1 and earmarking 3 billion from this year’s government surplus to finance the plan Chairman Eugene Milikin led the surplus earmark effort while the administration projected a 7.482 billion surplus for the year and the year’s total to date exceeds 4 billion.
Velma Masterson, 27, died when a stove exploded in her three room La Porte apartment. Four children were seriously burned as firemen contained the blaze before it spread to other units. The incident occurred on February 17 reported by police in La Porte, Indiana.

Friends in baseball and civil life gathered for the funeral of Mordecai Brown, famed Chicago Cubs pitcher. Services were at Thomas Funeral Home with burial at Roselawn Memorial Park, conducted by Terre Haute Elks Lodge No. 86. Pallbearers included Otto Jensen and Uriah Smith. Out-of-town baseball notable guests included Jimmy Archer, Joe Kernan, and Billy Niesen.
Three high school youths vandalized the United Club quarters at Sixth and Walnut, slashing a pool table covering, destroying a motion picture screen, kicking a kitchen door panel, and demolishing cooking utensils. Police and Melvin H. Tofsted, YMCA executive secretary, assessed total damage at $200.
In Knoxville Tennessee a pedestrian bridge collapsed last night sending about 30 people into flood swollen First Creek. A 30 foot section gave way under the weight of around 60 bystanders watching an automobile plunge from a parallel traffic bridge after a collision. No car occupants were hurt.
