Old Soldier Dies After Jail Heart Ailment
Wilmer A. Summerville, 73, a blind World War I veteran who twice refused admission to hospitals, died in a private nursing home after 46 days in Floyd County Jail. Sheriff Joe Adams housed him, then Christine Perry offered free care at her Cedartown area home before his death. He passed peacefully, saying he knew someone cared.

$250 000 Fire Rates Plant At Marion
A broken hose on a propane fuel truck caused a $250,000 blaze at Glasser Electric and Battery Co in Marion Indiana. The nozzle struck a floor valve, igniting compressed gas and flames that spread to adjacent apartment roofs. No one was hurt. co owner Alfred Glasser and his semi invalid brother Henry were evacuated. Fire crews from Marion and Elwood fought the two hour blaze.

Robbers Torture Man With Hot Iron in Fort Worth
Two gunmen posing as postal messengers broke into the Crawford home in Fort Worth's Westridge area. They handcuffed Mr. and Mrs. Crawford and tied guest Mrs. Mary Stephens.
