Private foiled in hijack attempt aboard Pan American flight
A U S Marine private in a black jacket produced a cocked 45 caliber pistol and tried to hijack a Pan American Airlines DC6 with 83 servicemen aboard for Hong Kong. After 2 hours 45 minutes a four star general authorized tear gas and the crew restrained him. Marine Pfc William Lee Clark of 1st Field Artillery Group from the 1st Division was identified as the suspect. no charges yet filed pending investigation. Flight crew included pilot John P. Jones copilot E L Archer and flight engineer Robert H. Clack.

Raymond Lowell Watts a 1965 Gerstmeyer Tech High School graduate and Vietnam veteran from Terre Haute survived heart shrapnel injuries after an open heart operation in Vietnam on December 27.
