Peiping Radio reports Red Chinese aircraft attempted to intercept six waves of U S military planes over Chinese coastal islands. The American planes reportedly flew away after 28 sorties and intruded over Yikiangshan Toumenshan and other islands, carrying out military provocations.
U S carrier planes and Marines assist in moving 30 000 Nationalist soldiers and civilians from the Tachens amid Red anti aircraft fire and nearby torpedo boats. The operation proceeds under low clouds as the fleet closes in, with no reported damage. Lt Gen Liu Lien yi says no orders yet from Chiang Kai shek to quit the islands.
Three people died Monday and six were injured in a three car collision on U S Highway 40 ten miles west of Vandalia Illinois. Victims include Elizabeth Lindsay Sr 87 and Oscar Lindsay 70 of West Terre Haute and William D Owens of Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. Rosalie Lindsay 34 wife of a Liggett grocer was in critical condition with acute oxygen treatment. four Lindsay children were to be moved to a Terre Haute hospital once stable. The elder Lindsay died at the scene. Oscar Lindsay and Owens died after admission. The couple had traveled to St Louis to bring mother home from a visit. The crash occurred as a westbound tractor trailer swerved across the road and struck Owens car then Mrs Lindsay’s car one mile west of Mulberry Grove Illinois. Continued on Page 5 Column 2.
In Linton Indiana after a Sunday drinking party Fred Dunning 40 died in Freeman Greene County Hospital at 9 45 PM Carl Walton 42 and Herbert Walton 33 were seriously wounded Herbert Walton listed as critical Police Chief William Coleman said the shooting arose from a dispute at Earl Mitchells home where visitor Ervin Villain 39 left after Dunning confronted him with a .32 caliber pistol A second argument between Dunning and Carl Walton preceded the fatal shooting Continued on Page 5 Column 5
Mayor Ralph Tucker and the Three-I League president met with league leaders in Terre Haute to decide the fate of the local baseball franchise. Hal Totten Jim Meagham Bob Coleman and Lynn Stone discussed reasons why the Fans Association could operate the team, with Tucker backing the effort and pledging to lead a drive to retain the franchise.

INDIANAPOLIS Feb 7 Indiana's 1955 Legislature is halfway through its 61 day session with only one of nearly 900 bills enacted. Action now shifts to committee and floor stages as the Senate accepts no new bills after today and the House finished accepting them last Friday. Police report three burglaries over the weekend. The H. E. Williams Store at 1246 Lafayette Ave said $400 was taken from a safe after the door was chiseled off and entry gained by forcing a rear door. Albert Corey’s Flaming Pit Barbecue at 1719 S Thirteenth St lost $52 in nickels via a restroom window entry with taped glass to deaden sound. McGowan's Restaurant at 666 Hulman St reported a smashed door but no entry gained.
