Mayor Leland Larrison disclosed Tuesday that City Controller William R. Rector has resigned. Rector had served as city controller since the Republican administration began January 1.
In Seoul the National Assembly adopted a sharp resolution of national indignation over U S North Korea talks on the Pueblo crew. Lawmakers urged punitive measures if needed and even military reprisals to counter North Korean provocations, saying the attack on President Park was more important than Pueblo.
Terre Haute officials plan to fill hundreds of potholes amid frigid weather. Street commissioner Sam Carpenter says 10 trucks and 10 workers will tackle high speed arteries, though Poplar Street remains disputed between city and state over responsibility. President Johnson seeks a travel tax to cut the U.S. balance of payments by 500 million dollars yearly. A Senate subcommittee will summon four federal agencies to explain why the government pays port charges on food shipped as aid to foreign countries. The move comes as President Johnson pushes a tax on travelers abroad to curb the drain, with GAO noting ongoing efforts to identify and disallow ineligible port charges totaling about 7.1 million in fiscal 1967.
