President Kennedy called for bold measures to cut foreign spending and attract funds to stop the overseas drain on U S gold reserves. He proposed slashing duty free imports, curbing tax havens, and reviewing tax laws while seeking to boost exports and keep the dollar strong.
President Kennedy sent Congress detailed proposals to extend unemployment benefits and aid needy children of unemployed parents. He urged swift enactment, attaching drafts and statements from labor and education secretaries. The plans include a temporary federal program for exhausted state benefits and federal participation in state aid programs for the children.
William Chester Cole, 22, a former Fort Myers prison escapee and one of the FBI's ten most wanted, turned himself in at Gulf Breeze Florida after contacting agents in Pensacola. He said the pursuit made further flight useless and expressed relief that it was over. He was serving a life sentence for armed robbery.

INDIANAPOLIS Feb 6 The Indiana House failed to set a record for bills as 56 new measures were introduced bringing session totals to 556 short of the 567 record set in 1959. House extended deadline to today and advanced a driver education linked license bill.

John Meyer an 18 year old Notre Dame freshman football player from Chicago was stabbed in a downtown scuffle after being accosted by two boys in a car with two girls. He was taken to Memorial Hospital in fair condition with a stomach wound.

United Press International tallied 99 weather deaths in 22 states last week, led by Massachusetts with 17. New York issued a traffic ban. New England and New York faced heavy snow removal, airlines recovered, and schools and dairies adjusted services.
The Weather Bureau predicts light snow moving in from the west this evening and continuing Tuesday across Indiana. Temperatures swing from upper 20s to low 30s today and Tuesday with a possible late week cooldown. Roads are clearing on main routes while secondary roads retain ice. snow depths range from two to four inches in South Bend Lafayette Indianapolis Goshen Fort Wayne and Evansville remains clear.
Evanston Illinois February controversy centered on Northwestern University chemistry professor Malcolm Dole who faced multiple police confrontations for riding a bicycle on streets zoned for motor vehicles. He was ticketed for a traffic violation and ordered to appear in Evanston municipal court.
An Indianapolis counterfeiting ring was cracked after patrolmen stopped two suspects near Sixteenth Street and Wabash Avenue yielding 1720 counterfeit $20 bills. Havana reports Fidel Castro government has taken over the Yateras Aqueduct Co., supplier to the U S naval base at Guantanamo Bay since 1939. No water supply interruption yet. new administrators say operations will continue as before. The move coincides with a broader campaign against private and Catholic schools and church influence in Cuba.
Washington reports President Kennedy has chosen James M. Gavin for the ambassador post in Paris. The 53 year old retired Army general, famed as a World War II airborne commander, would await final French government clearance before formal nomination.
Two young gunmen robbed a State Bank of Waldron branch in St Paul Indiana taking about $2000. One man was shot in the leg during a roadblock encounter as the other surrendered after a chase near Greensburg. Bank manager Floyd Wagoner described the robbers as needing haircuts and not masked.
