A three alarm blaze gutted the Wabash Distributing warehouse at 444 N 3rd and Sears Roebuck sales and warehouse at 423 N 2nd, with A-One Distributors 219 Sycamore St also affected by smoke. Firemen fought icy conditions. one rescuer hospitalized, Capt. Robert Mulvihill treated and released. Damage estimated at about $1 million.

Terre Haute Redevelopment Commission announced bids totaling 402060 for parcels sold in the last stage of the Southwest Urban Renewal project. Firefighters saved Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co site after a gas main leak near the Sears warehouse prompted evacuations and a long blaze with 135 of Terre Haute’s 148 firefighters responding.
