Congress hails 30 hour Viet Nam cease fire action

Vice President Humphrey and Senate leaders praised the 30 hour Christmas cease-fire in Viet Nam and urged extending the pause toward the Vietnamese New Year January 21. Believe Girl Abducted In Rockford Case

Police say 11 year old Susan Brady likely abducted by a motorist after last sighting Monday near St. Patrick's parochial school. Bloodhounds traced a path five blocks to an alley and intersection, while 11 light planes and more than 1,000 officers and residents searched Winnebago and Stephenson counties. Neighboring volunteers and Civil Air Patrol aided in the hunt.

Prominent Rockville Men Die in Head-On Crash

In Vermillion county two Rockville men Forrest Clearwater 67 and Floyd Merry 61 were killed when their cars collided on U S Highway 36. Widow Elizabeth Merry 63 and Lorrine Clearwater 63 were injured. Jack Akers 23 of Clinton suffered a fractured shoulder and wrist. Clearwater a former Parke County official and businessman, and Merry were pronounced dead on arrival at Union Hospital Terre Haute. Continued on Page 9 Col 5.

Officials Seek Reclassification of 2 Million Draft Rejections

Defense and Selective Service officials consider reclassifying about 2 million men deemed unfit for service as 1-Y and study if wartime buildup for Vietnam warrants re-examination. As of November 30, 2,122,918 were in the 1-Y category. A change would require Pentagon approval and could enable local boards to request re-tests if physical condition shifts.

Frantz Named Chairman For Union Hospital Drive

Welby M. Frantz president of Eastern Express Inc was named chairman of the Union Hospital expansion drive. The plan starts with a $5.5 million first phase to add beds and boost capacity from 250 to 350 as the project spans up to 15 years. A $1.5 million public subscription campaign will begin after the new year.
