Urge Industrial Park Development Plan for Terre Haute Area

The Office of Economic Adjustment on Thursday proposed a plan to transform the Fort Harrison Industrial District, formerly the Tumpane plant, into an industrial complex with at least 4,200 jobs. Officials noted 265 jobs were lost with the plant closure and the plan aims to replace them. The presentation was given at the Terre Haute Committee for Area Progress meeting, with leaders from the West Central Indiana Economic District and Chamber of Commerce in attendance. The study, begun in 1965, cites declining industries and urges highway transportation fixes, interindustry stimulation, and targeted promotion of growth-potential industries as core strategy elements with four specific points outlined.
