Albert W. Stout Jr. of 403 Gardendale Rd was elected president of the Country Club of Terre Haute by directors after the annual meeting. New officers include Denis Snider as vice president John B. Hunter as secretary and John J. Cleary as treasurer. Directors named for three-year terms are Walter A. Bledsoe W N Cox and Robert F. Prox Jr Judge Harold J. Bitzegaio will serve one year as director replacing Snider and Dr Robert Schumaker is elected to a two-year term as director.

Old Indian dies in Minnesota Chippewa medicine man dies
A Chippewa medicine man named John Ka Ka Gesick died Friday in a Warroad nursing home at an estimated age between 110 and 124. Born to Chief Ahya Sha Wash and May Muska Washie in a Lake of the Woods teepee, he recalled portage battles in his native tongue. In August 1905 President Theodore Roosevelt presented him patent deed to 102 acres on the lake’s south shore.

Board Elects Cleary Treasurer in Annual Meeting

Two Suits Seek 200000 In Terre Haute Federal Court
Two separate civil actions filed in the Terre Haute Division of Federal Court seek a total of 200000 in damages. S. S. Kresge Co. is named in companion suits following a December 6 1966 incident in which Mrs. Helene Soughers alleges a merchandise truck knocked her to the floor. Her husband Roy L. Soughers seeks 25000 for loss of his wife’s services and medical costs. Lawyers John E. Keller represents the Soughers. In a second case Helen J. Medigy and her mother Eddie J. Presley of Tennessee seek 75000 and 50000 respectively for injuries from a December 10 1966 auto crash on U S 41 near the ramp at the old route. Defendants include Sharel M. Brown Vincennes and Lawrence J. Ameter Jr. Lawrenceville Ill. The Gosnell Benecki Quindry firm represents the plaintiffs. Also noted, the Star Spangled Banner was originally known as The Defense of Fort McHenry and printed on a handbill without Frances Scott Keys name.

Stargazer Sent Aloft Into Space From Cape Kennedy
At Cape Kennedy Florida a two ton observatory carrying 11 telescopes was launched by an Atlas Centaur rocket at 3 40 am EST. The 75 million payload aims for a 480 mile high orbit to give astronomers an unobstructed view of stars galaxies nebulae and interstellar gases. The observatory is described as the heaviest and most complex US scientific satellite and marks a major step in space astronomy.
