Henson Guilty Of Murders In Four Fatal Shootings

In Vigo Circuit Court William Henry Henson of Paris Indiana pleaded guilty to four counts of second degree murder for the Aug 1 killings in Terre Haute. Four occupants, including Henson's estranged wife and three daughters, died when shot in a car at 6th and Oak. His 12 year old daughter Beth survived with severe arm injuries. Sentencing set for Dec 10 after pre sentence report. life in prison or governor suspension options discussed.

Bloody new battle leaves heavy Viet Cong and U S losses

In a clash 40 miles northwest of Saigon, U S infantry backed by Air Force and Navy jets fought repeated Communist assaults near a rubber plantation. Stock Prices Drop Sharply After Rate Increase

New York stocks opened with sharp declines as the Federal Reserve Board raised the discount rate. The Dow fell 14.98 to 931.12 in the first half hour amid heavy trading and large blue chip blocks. Vatican Council approves world schema amid division

The Vatican Ecumenical Council approved its final schema on world problems with 2,111 voting for the measure and 483 opposed on the war and peace section. Other sections on birth control studies and contraception policy also passed by wide margins as the council ends its three year session.

Pope to Permit Meat Eating on Fridays Reported

Vatican sources say Pope Paul VI will issue a Papal Bull allowing Catholics to eat meat on Fridays. The decree, to be issued at a public Ecumenical Council session, would modify abstinence rules except for Good Friday Christmas vigil and one other major feast day possibly December 8. Abstinence remains a church precept but this change alters forthright Friday practice for most Catholics.

collision on U S 40 near West Terre Haute kills one

Mrs Carrie Black 51 of West Terre Haute died after a two car crash near Sumner Ave and U S 40. Five others were injured including her husband Ray 59 and two Casey Illinois residents Mary Murphy 43 and Opal Washburn 55 treated at Union Hospital. Edwin Murphy 45 and Nettie Stinson 62 were treated at St Anthony Hospital.
