Indiana agencies unveil new projects at Pre-Legislative Conference
INDIANAPOLIS AP Major state departments and agencies presented legislative recommendations as the three day Pre-Legislative Conference wrapped up. Officials from four state universities and the Departments of Mental Health Natural Resources Public Instruction and the State Highway Commission outlined plans while changes to panel sessions and speaking slots affected Gov Handley and Gov Welsh appearances. House Speaker elect Bowen forecast rapid passage of a bill to distribute about 50 million of the general fund surplus to local units for 1967 property tax relief, while Senate leaders debated the merits of a long range continuous relief plan amid potential spillover funding rules. The general fund surplus is projected to top 120 million by next June 30 if no action is taken.
