Stenographer Kills Policeman Friend in Chicago

A 43 year old stenographer, Catherine Lonergan, admitted she shot policeman John L. Kelly in a near north side hotel room after he taunted her about another woman. She said she picked up his revolver and fired once into his head. Kelly, 48, a father of three, died after gasping the question, and Lonergan then wiped the blood from him.

In Johannesburg Aug 10 a local building firm praised Karel Reyneck for returning a black bag containing their $7,000 payroll found on a roadside. The firm called him the most honest man they ever met and presented him a five shilling reward.

Pair Arrested in Terre Haute Robbery Spree

Two Terre Haute men Daniel I. Gallez and Donald Ray Bryant were arrested on armed robbery charges after allegedly assaulting a 26 year old Reelsville man. Gallez also allegedly robbed a laundry truck driver James Murdock near Forest Park. A third man and a young girl suspected in the laundry truck robbery remain sought.

Robert H. Duffy of Terre Haute was appointed United States Commissioner for the Terre Haute Division of the Southern District of Indiana by Judge William E. Steckler. Suspended Licenses Checked Closer in Indiana

Indianapolis August 10 Governor Craig ordered closer monitoring of suspended licenses after two Marion county youths died in hit and run crashes. One trooper per state police post will be assigned full time to license checks. The governor will urge the Traffic Safety Commission to propose stiffer penalties for driving on suspended licenses.
