Funeral services for Samuel J. Peters, 63, who died of a heart attack at his residence 1218 North Water Street, will be held there at 2 PM Wednesday. Rev. E J Peters, pastor of the local church, will officiate.
Washington officials say Russia’s hydrogen bomb boast does not trigger a crisis program. The administration remains unruffled, noting no Russian tests since 1951 and that U.S. defenses plus long-range bombers already cover most targets.

He served as engineer at Home Packing 1913 to 1927 and foreman with city street department then headed State Highway Department until April this year. Survived by widow Mary E Peters and six sons including Alfred Peters.

Henry Fremont Crouch a 27 year old Indianapolis man was arrested by FBI agents Sunday night at a relative’s home in Shepardsville Ind on a desertion from the Air Force charge. FBI Indianapolis special agent in charge Leonard Blaylock said Crouch deserted from Sampson Air Force Base Geneva New York on January 23 1953. Crouch is married and recently returned from Los Angeles Calif according to the FBI.
Secretary of State Dulles after meeting President Eisenhower said the United States would adopt reciprocal measures if the Communists refuse to return American prisoners of war. He indicated retaliatory steps would be taken for armistice violations and noted full report on talks with Syngman Rhee. The matter of possible withholding of POWs remains a major concern.

WIESBADEN Germany Aug 10 All 24 American airmen aboard a C-119 Flying Boxcar parachuted to safety before the plane crashed into the North Africa desert official word said. Ten survivors were later found and evacuated to Wheelus Air Base Hospital near Tripoli. The Air Force reported no serious injuries among the six crew members and 18 passengers. A board will investigate the crash.
Indiana Bell officials reported a long distance cable from Toledo to Chicago hacked in five places near Mishawaka. The 20 day old strike by Communications Workers Union locals affected 82 Bell towns with no progress in weekend talks led by Federal Conciliator Arthur H. Pierson. Officials could not estimate damage as the overhead line remained mostly intact.
Pottsdam dispatch reports John 22 Patrick Jr 21 and Vincent 20 three Maguire brothers enlisted in the navy a year apart and now serve together aboard the USS LST 938 with their shipmates in a shared wartime posting.
