Washington April 25 John L Lewis submitted to the United Mine Workers wage policy committee ten general contract demands for 1949 bargaining. They call for higher welfare and retirement fund contributions, a 30 hour week, guaranteed annual wage and 200 paid days, plus free explosives and safety gear, improved safety, vacation and severance adjustments, and unified work time. The plan aims to stabilize the industry and seeks talks by June 1. The policy committee will seek similar demands for soft and hard coal sectors.
London April 25. The Duchess of Windsor is shunned by royal circles as she and her husband depart for Paris after a 10 day stay in which royal palaces and many stately homes remained closed to her. Windsor, who abdicated for love, came to England days before her arrival and later moved to a new residence after visiting Queen Mary and King George.

They aim to break the 10 year old record of 726 hours while Bob Woodhouse and Woodrow Jongward were diverted at Yuma Arizona yesterday by a clogged gas line.

She said food clothing and medicine were distributed regardless of race creed or politics and noted administrative costs were lower than similar programs.
