Sept 7 1960 unions demanded shorter hours more overtime night work bonuses paid holidays and other benefits. Oct 17 both sides agreed to submit dispute to presidential mediation.
The Tribune-Star will publish the complete text of the Civil Rights Bill on Sunday April 26, due to the extensive public interest and vigorous Senate debate surrounding the measure.
Evansville residents Gladys Shane and Frank Dorsey were held in Vigo County Jail after being brought to Terre Haute for questioning in the April 8 burglary at Don Domers Television and Radio Service. Bond set at 2500 and 5000 dollars respectively.
An anonymous caller phoned in a bomb threat to the Indiana Statehouse in Indianapolis forcing a noon evacuation. Governor Matthew E. Welsh was at lunch when State Police operations in the nearby State Office Building received the warning that the device would explode at 2 p.m. EST.

Three central Indiana counties Delaware Marion and Madison may be declared flood disaster areas after White River flooding. Civil Defense director Robert Bates planned talks with federal officials to possibly add these counties to 26 already declared after the Ohio River flood last month. Flood fighters braced for emergencies on lower White and Wabash river sections as the White crest passed Ravenswood and Muncie experienced severe damage.
At a Rose Garden news conference President Johnson proposed meeting personally with Republican aspirants to plot a civil foreign policy course. He said seven contenders would receive foreign policy briefings including Rockefeller Goldwater Stassen Nixon Scranton and Smith plus Wallace. He announced extra defense savings of 68 million annually and said McNamara would detail affected installations later.

A massive log jam threatened the Wabash Ave bridge when debris piled up between the bridge piers and stretched 200 feet north. Indiana Highway Department supervisor Charles Leeth said crews using a large crane freed the logs and debris, allowing the flood swollen river to flow under the span.
An American Ranger officer was killed and another wounded 25 miles west of Saigon in a clash with Viet Cong units. A spokesman said seven Vietnamese Rangers were killed and eight wounded, but American casualties could not be confirmed. Total U S casualties risen to 130 killed in action in Viet Nam. 34 deaths this year.
