Arthur Root a 65 year old creamery employee deemed too ill to work spotted smoke at the plant. He seized a fire extinguisher and hurried to the roof signaling others. The fire was put out with 1500 dollars in damage. He then collapsed and died of a heart attack.

An associate, Joseph Spiker 18 of Greencastle Indiana who fled with him was captured while attempting to steal a car in Viroqua. Monick eluded a pursuit after firing five shots at a pursuing squad car and may be headed toward Chicago in a stolen car. Safe cracking gear was found in a vehicle Monick had abandoned earlier.

Rescue of Road Worker Cut From Concrete at Clinton

Legion Completes Program For Annual Deming Park Egg Hunt
Fort Harrison Post No 40 of the American Legion sponsors the annual Easter egg hunt at Deming Park with over 500 prizes. The event is open to Wabash Valley children under 13 and starts at 2 pm after a prelude band concert by the Federation of Musicians. About 3,500 eggs are being colored and boiled by Legionnaires at 417 South Fifth Street.
