A shark leaped from the sea on Miramar beach as naval gunfire and depth charges frightened it. Bathers beat the shark to death with sticks and clubs before it could return to the water. The injured man was hospitalized as a U.S. naval vessel demonstrated guns and bombs offshore.
The Nuernberg war crimes tribunal today sentenced 19 of Adolf Hitler’s top aides to prison terms up to 25 years. Lt Gen Gottlob Berger received 25 years for sending thousands to gas chambers and other war crimes, while Hans Heinrich Lammers drew 20 years for crimes against Jews and other offenses. Baron Ernst von Weizsäcker got 7, with sentences ranging to 3 years 10 months.
The Frederick B. Cline No. 1 Bradbury well, located west of Wilford field near Shelburn, gushed 50 barrels in its first hour and continued rapid flow. Three more wells are being drilled in the new field, with Marts No. 1 producing 25 barrels per hour.

Funeral at Marshall Christian Church Sunday at 2 with Rev. Gibson. burial in Marshall Cemetery.
In Windsor Ontario on April 14 Gerald Bates age 11 died from injuries after a spinning yo-yo rebounded and struck him on the head. The incident was reported by United Press.
Avery, age 75, holds sole control of Montgomery Ward after mass resignations left the firm with no president or officers. Willard Sahloff quit as vice president and general merchandising manager amid turmoil, while largest stockholder Massachusetts Investors Trust plans to oppose his re election. Avery had previously been thrust into leadership by government seizure during the war and is seen as likely to win re election despite the revolt.
Vigo Circuit Court postponed the trial of 32 year old Wanda Carroll alias Wanda Rains of Newport Kentucky on motion by prosecutors. The case, charged with robbing traveling salesman Ralph Staup at a local motor court party on February 11, included a $1500 diamond ring an expensive watch and $30 in cash. Prosecutor says the witness whereabouts are unknown.
