Remembering Hats and a Soft Answer in Love and Wit
A collection of quaint anecdotes recalls Charles Sumner forgetting his hat at a hotel and being chased by a waiter to retrieve it. Humorists Arthur Ward and a friend struggle to identify their hats. Alfred’s skill at memory stems from early instruction. A tale on temper and reconciliation ends with a pledge to cherish and honor, illustrating the old adage that a soft answer turns away wrath, and its impact on domestic life.

Parental Love and Everyday Remedies in a Historic Column
In a dated newspaper style, the piece extols parental love as the truest bond, contrasts it with other relationships, and reflects on motherhood. It also offers practical remedies for sick headache, advising water intake and warm foot baths, with notes on soda as a stomach aid. A Denver court moment features a witty judicial interjection about a lawyer's appeal and an elegant judge.
