Abolitionist Whig clashes and Florida question in U S race
A letter argues that Whigs and Abolitionists in New York and elsewhere form an unholy alliance under Harrison. It contrasts New York with Ohio laws favoring masters and condemns anti slavery forces, citing Van Buren’s approval of Florida statehood without slavery restrictions.
Political Divide Over Van Buren and Harrison
The letter argues Van Buren’s pro slavery and veto pledges against free soil policies, contrasting him with Harrison. It accuses Harrison’s backers of opportunism and ties Webster and others to Federal power. It warns that New York could swing the election, urging voters to support the Republican cause and resist Democratic plans.
