The Tarborough Press announces weekly publication at ten dollars and fifty cents per year with monthly rates and subscriber terms. Advertisements up to sixteen lines gain fifty cents for the first insertion and twenty five cents each subsequent insertion. larger ads priced per square. Letters to the editor must be postpaid.
A collection of items from the Cincinnati Daily Gazette recounts a staged Sea Serpent hoax off Nahant and a fishing fatality in Boston. A correspondent describes the serpent built of barrels and canvass, exhibited irregularly, then revealed as a hoax. Separately, fisherman Thompson drowned in a boat wedged against a wharf as tidal flood forced water in, leaving him boxed in and unable to escape.
The North Carolina General Assembly in 1830 enacted fixed fees for county court clerks. Fees cover leading process returns, indictments, recognizances, references, continuances, subpoenas with up to four witnesses, executions, scire facias, copy of records with per sheet rates, orders, wills, and related items, with caps and conditions as specified. The act sets per item charges and limits total amounts per record or will, preserving prior statutes where relevant.
A long act enumerates clerks fees for probate and court services, sheriff duties and penalties. It fixes charges for recording wills inventories and accounts, administering administrations, licenses, searches, bonds, commissions, naturalization, and various court processes. includes penalties for failure to record and provisions on payments to counties and trustees.
