Answer of Joper Sars to Hoxsers inquiry in the Carolinian
The Raleigh Standard prints the lengthy defense of R. M. Saunders regarding abolition in the District of Columbia and the reception of abolition petitions. Saunders rebuts accusations of abolitionism, cites House Journal entries from 1824 to 1836, asserts his stance against emancipation within the state unless law with conditions, and contrasts positions of Calhoun factions, Van Buren, and Harrison, urging North Carolina voters to judge by the facts and party loyalties.
