From the Asheville Messenger the piece argues land hoarding harms regional prosperity. It cites owners with eight thousand dollars in land, of which three thousand yields little, and shows how selling and reinvesting could compound far faster than land value, urging owners to release unused properties for improvement and growth.

A lengthy despatch recounts Cols Fisher and Green of the Texan Army captured at Mier by Gen Ampudia. It details a seventeen hour battle with Texan losses minor, Mexican casualties high, and a capitulation under terms debated by both sides. Also reported is an elopement case in which Charles Miller abducted and fled with his wife to New York, then to the West Indies, after a daylong pursuit.
The Vie New York Commercial Advertiser reports two ladies of Mr Creighton’s Niagara Falls family escaped death when their sleigh mounted near Table Rock and sent the horse over the cliff. Both women leaped clear before the plunge, the sleigh and horse shattering on the 160 plus foot drop. In a separate item, CFP Elijah M. Amos of Knoxville Georgia died after his horse bolted the sulky, dragging him for a mile before he perished. he was about 43, long a county official and Knoxville postmaster.
A 17th century report describes a deadly landslide at Troy New York destroying homes and killing forty. It notes a historic repetition in 1537 and details a Red River freshet with Jonesborough flooding and several drownings and boats rescuing people. The piece mentions loss of cotton bales and raft damage plus destroyed stock and unmovable raft removal. Crowds of thirty thousand flocked to see him in New York and Amherst Mageum, with dignitaries hosting dinners and giving gifts while his mortal parents, ordinary-sized farming folks, traveled with two younger siblings. The note also mentions a Mormon notoriety piece about female preachers from Joe Smith.
Nashville February 11. Payne Kirby and Carroll, the first trio convicted of murder in Franklin county, White county, and Sumner county respectively, were yesterday executed by hanging near the Murfreesboro Turnpike from the city. An immense crowd gathered from the night before and persisted until noon to witness the event.
Reports circulate that eastern Texas counties are organizing forces to invade eastern Mexico. Generals Rusk and Mayfield are said to have recruited hundreds from Nacogdoches Houston and San Augustine with others in Red River counties preparing to join, though some deny the plan.
