Rumored Troubles in Canada Cause Frontiersmen Uproar
Rumors from the Canada frontier describe violent unrest near the Lachine Canal as Irish laborers recently dismissed for interfering in a Montreal election confront contractors and overseers. Soldiers reportedly refused to fire as rioters clashed, with officers alarmed by mutinous conduct and a planned seizure of those who would not join the revolt. A Pittsburg rumor also hints at Niagara outbreaks between Patriots and civil authorities, with troops called out and Patriots dispersed, but reliability is uncertain.
