Fragmentary report recounts a deadly quarre l between Col Myers and Major John V Lemore over a land claim. Myers was killed by Lemore after a confrontation while surveying boundaries. Lemore fired from a distance, and Myers died from a buckshot wound. The coroner's inquest details a long-running land dispute and escalating threats.
Physicians testified that the victim could not breathe after a shooting. Sligh, Overseer for M Lemore, asserted his employer had watched Calvers from daylight onward and warned Col Myers that if he came to the land that day, he was resolved to kill him. Charleston Courter.
A letter received last evening reports the M Lemore trial for Colonel Myers murder in Columbia last week ended without a verdict as the jury could not agree. The prisoner was remanded to jail to await a retrial in October.

New Jersey passes a prize fighting ban with fines and imprisonment for pugilists, boat captains, and spectators. Captain Cornick of the Sarah aided in saving the crew and passengers of the barque Henry during a late voyage from Virginia to Liverpool. The Henry carried one hundred forty souls in distress after peril at sea.

The incident, reported by the Charleston Courier, suggests mania a potu.

A Pittsburg paper cites a Paysette County man claiming a cow owned by Mr. Young of Germany Township bore forty one calves in a single birth. Only one calf, about rat size, survived. the cow died. The tale is presented as probable and unchallenged.
A wooden box containing an infant's body was found floating in the river above the city. The physician and coroner judged the infant had lived briefly and died weeks ago. It may have drifted from far upstream, before the box surfaced in Rochester.
A cluster of eleven rats was found in a Darien New York stable with tails braided together preventing escape. Ten rats were alive and had nearly consumed the eleventh. the braiding ends were decayed while the rest of the tails remained sound.
