Mr. and Mrs. John Spreiim berg Sr. journeyed to Elephant Butte Lake to join their daughter, Mrs. Kitty Childers, who is convalescing after surgery.
An OCR fragment from Sierra Sporting Goods discusses Robert Gyiegos showing a large fish, possibly a state record, and notes it will be mounted as a trophy. It lists Central and North Flyway hunting seasons with dates for ducks, turkey, pheasant, quail, bears, and archery. It mentions gear, sales, and a misprint about a self-inflicted shooting incident.
Rumors in Taos circulated that Kil Carson Co operative executives struck a deal with the County Commission to buy the Co op buildings for a courthouse site. County officials dismissed unsigned letters as baseless political feuding and questioned the cost of seizing or demolishing the existing Co op, noting no plan to purchase the property.
In Questa on Sunday, November 7, a new telephone system will start service. The system uses seven digit numbers and requires dialing all seven to complete calls. A new Questa directory will be published. Direct Distance Dialing will allow long distance calls nationwide as quickly as a local call. Joe Montano, manager, says the new building and equipment are more than 7 percent complete. Mountain States Telephone has invested over 200000 dollars in Questa for this convention.
Buffalo hunting could start in New Mexico as a state project if federal approval follows a Game Commission plan to establish a buffalo range on the McGregor firing range. Funds of 30000 were approved for fencing and water units as a breeding herd of about 200 head is developed from surpluses. California and federal surplus stock would supply initial buffalo, with harvest possible after herd reaches 200 and calves born yearly. Also noted, Jimmy Hopkins earned corporal’s stripe upon returning to New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell this month.
Admission list shows patient names and origins with dates from Sept. 12 to Sept. 25 including Martinez, Trall, Armijo, Valerio, Henderson, Otis, Quintina, Tesky, and others. Dismissals list on Sept. 19 to Sept. 25 includes Martinez, Trujillo, Gonzales, Archuleta, Jaramillo, Arimija, Henderson, Summers, Cisternos, Sanchez, Pacheco. Visiting hours: afternoon 2 to 4 and evening 7 to 9. no visitors outside hours.
A plan to start a CAP program in 1966 for high school sophomores and juniors in education deprived areas was discussed. Jicarilla council would grant administration with Taos CAP executives led by Andres Martinez as president and Walter Brown as vice president.
Taos County Health Association announces a nursing seminar on acute strokes for nursing personnel in the area. Pat McCarthy, RN, says the program is planned for early October, open to all nurses aides and nursing employees whether employed or not. Call 758-3608 with name and phone number.
Police officials address teens in Penasco about road safety and respectful conduct. Rodrigues describes how youngsters panic at red lights, while Drennan urges girls and boys to grow into ladies and gentlemen. He warns against gang fights and vandalism as improper behavior.
